The original tourist hub of Southeast Asia, Thailand continues to be an immensely popular destination despite some troubles in the past decade. Even with civil unrest in its southern regions and recently in Bangkok, the Boxing Day tsunami, sex tourism, overdevelopment, and rising prices, Thailand’s original appeal of gorgeous beaches and a strong culture have kept it near the top of many people’s to-do list. While it doesn’t have the absolute best beaches, and the locals have become extremely accustomed to foreigners and their money, Thailand is the perfect destination for a novice traveller.
Neighboring it to the southeast is Cambodia, a country only relatively recently coming out of years of civil unrest. It’s best known for being home of the world’s largest temple complex at Angkor, just outside the lively city of Siem Reap.
