While best known for Banff and Jasper National Parks, Alberta has many other areas that are just as impressive. Alberta has a great diversity of landscapes, such as the prairies and badlands in the south and east, forests and lakes in the north, and foothills and mountains in the west. Waterton National Park is one particular gem along the Alberta-Montana border, lacking the crowds of the better known parks, but with far more wildlife and just as impressive mountain scenery.

The Helen Lake Trail, with Cirque Peak in the background. Due to its popularity with inexperienced/irresponsible hikers, it unfortunately suffers from substantial trail braiding, at times having 5 distinct tracks and creating a real scar on the fragile landscape.
